How to unblock drains with salt

If you’ve ever had problems with a slow clearing sink, bath or shower drain then you’ll probably know how annoying it can be.  However before you call a plumber or buy expensive drain clearing chemicals try looking in your cupboards at home and give this method a try.

Get half a cup of normal table salt and pour it down the plug hole in question.  Then boil a kettle full of water and pour onto the salt.  Leave overnight and repeat if necessary.  You’ll probably find it works first time however and it has done for me where other specialised solutions have failed.  I’m no scientist but I think it has something to do with salt being an alkali, and the alkali attacks whatever gunge is blocking the drain.  Hope it works as well for you.  Happy clean drains!!
