Cold Calls - Annoying sales calls from call centres and how to deal with them

I have set up a list of annoying companies who cold call to try and sell you something, usually from a call centre in India. The sales pitch has recently favoured selling either mobile phones or cheap calls from your landline. You’ve probably found this site if you’ve got home from work and noticed a missed call on your landline from a strange number, hopefully you’ll find the answer here without having to make a phonecall at your expense. If you are bothered by calls from call centres then please register with the TPS at www.tpsonline.org.uk , please note however that some companies are not always registered, especially the call centres outside of the UK. You’ll often find that if you mention that your registered with the TPS they’ll pretend to take note, only to call you again an hour later. As good an idea as the TPS is, it doesn’t always work as well as it should do, as I have personally found.

If you are particularly bothered by autodialling silent telephone calls then register your number with the silent calls bureau at www.silentguard.co.uk completely free of charge.

If you are bothered by cold calls then I’d advise against registering with www.callpreventionregistry.co.uk the reason for this is they charge you for registering with the telephone preference service which is free. Please do not give away your hard earned money when you can register for free on the tps link at the top of this section. I personally think this is disgraceful. Also be wary of this link on MSE which is supposedly written by an ex-employee of call prevention registry http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=150756 it would appear he is defending their actions.
